Title
Yin and Yang Koi
11x14 Graphite on paper
hidden meaning
I remember this being the first drawing I felt proud of. I started it when I was 13 years old but it took until I was 15, a junior in high school, to fully complete it. I struggled with a lot of physical and emotional pain then, which stopped me from doing a lot of things, or at least from doing them for very long, very often or very well. Everything overwhelmed me. Even art. This drawing was my teacher... I still struggle with pain to this day, however, I've made progress and I feel more optimistic. Working on this drawing just a little at a time, days, weeks, months, even years apart... I still completed it. One scale at a time. This drawing taught me there's really no other way to accomplish anything. How to Order

About this drawing...
I consider this drawing to be one of my personal classics; one my earliest works created during my teenage years.
I took inspiration from my pet goldfish to design the bodies of these koi, and more inspiration for the shape of their tails from my crowntail betta. The subject, meaning or message I meant to express through this drawing I've mostly lost because I didn't consciously have one then. I remember I was inspired by a growing curiosity for a spiritual aspect of nature, and the supernatural. I originally started this drawing to give to a friend but I ended up getting a giant print of it made instead. The paper I used was not of good quality (I didn't know any better then) so the image cracked and stained over time from working on it and it became very brittle. I didn't know enough to keep a barrier between my skin and the paper, and I bore down too hard with my lines so every adjustment I made can still be seen. I always see so many mistakes when I look at this drawing, but it's special to me and a lot of people are drawn to it. I'm always surprised and moved by how many compliments I still get on this one.
